The webinar featured leading experts in the field, each offering a distinct perspective on the risks, opportunities and practical realities of redesigning assessment for an AI-enabled world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During the session, we ran <strong>four live audience poll questions<\/strong> to better understand how educators and faculty members across the globe are currently perceiving and approaching AI and assessment in health education. The results revealed strong appetite for change, but far less clarity on how to turn it into practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What the audience told us<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<section class=\"wp-block-group alignfull has-ivory-background-color has-background is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\" style=\"margin-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--large);padding-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--large);padding-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--large)\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns are-vertically-aligned-center is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-f15824f9 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-vertically-aligned-center is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" style=\"margin-top:0;margin-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--x-small)\">Q1: How is your institution currently approaching assessment redesign in light of AI?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"margin-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--small)\">Despite AI\u2019s growing role in healthcare education, the vast majority (86%) haven\u2019t made significant, systematic changes to assessment yet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>37% said they\u2019ve made some ad hoc changes, but nothing systematic<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>27% said they\u2019re actively discussing and planning changes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Only 14% said they\u2019ve made significant changes to their assessment methods<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>13% said they haven\u2019t addressed it yet<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-vertically-aligned-center is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" style=\"margin-top:0;margin-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--x-small)\">Q2: What is your biggest concern about assessment in the age of AI?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"margin-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--small)\">Faculty concerns are varied rather than concentrated, but trust runs through all of them \u2013 with authenticity of student work and the evidence behind AI outputs raised most often.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>29% said not being able to tell genuine competence from AI-generated work<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>29% said not being confident AI outputs are backed by legitimate, verifiable scientific evidence<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>22% said faculty not being familiar or confident enough with AI to create questions and evaluate AI-assisted work<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>20% said losing trust in the validity of current assessment formats<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div redesign for the AI era? <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"margin-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--small)\">Faculty want practical, real-world examples to guide assessment redesign.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The majority (53%) said real-world examples and case studies of redesigned assessment approaches<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>37% said support and training to build confidence in judging AI-influenced student work<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>10% said protected time to get familiar with new approaches<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" style=\"margin-top:0;margin-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--x-small)\">Q4: To what extent should AI be integrated into student assessments?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"margin-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--small)\">Most favor a middle ground: allowing AI occasionally, but assessing the thinking behind it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The majority (58%) said AI should be permitted occasionally, with assessment focused on the reasoning and process behind AI-assisted work rather than the final answer<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>19% said it should be fully integrated, with AI fluency formally assessed as a core competency<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>16% said not at all, keeping assessments AI-free to protect core skills<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Only 7% said AI should be used just for early-stage tasks (idea generation, literature searching)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Where do we go from here?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Faculty aren\u2019t resisting AI in healthcare education assessment \u2013 they\u2019re simply looking for a way to do it well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As AI becomes part of how students work, faculty recognize the need to approach assessment with an open mind. What\u2019s missing is a clear picture of what successful integration looks like in practice. And with few institutions having taken systematic action, faculty can be left in limbo: ready to adapt, but without the guidelines, support or best-practice examples to do so.
